Replacement Children

Former Marine, Charlie Woods, survived three tours in Afghanistan without a scar. His luck isn't as good after he gets back home to Greensboro, Georgia.

Working as a part-time limo driver, Charlie accepts an unusual five night loop from Atlanta to Key West and back. His wealthy passenger, eighty-plus Vivien Granville, refuses to fly anymore, but her youngest son has hanged himself in Key West and is being buried there.

On the road, the crafty Mrs. Granville maneuvers Charlie into a devil's bargain. He needs money to save his house from the tax man. She needs a shield against her five surviving children. Their arrangement solves his cash problems, but at a cost he could never have seen coming.

Sum of Many Things

Sum of Many Things

The collection of my short stories from 2007 – 2011. Each is a unique snapshot of humor, folly, and avoidable tragedy. A torqued-up teenage boy in possession of an unconscious girl. A lonely young woman visiting her mother’s birthplace in Ireland. Parents of a model child who discover she’s sold off the timber on their weekend retreat. Spouses blindsided by betrayal. A man in his fifties trapped by vanity into attending trapeze school. A young cemetery worker’s brush with sacrilege. These and more find unusual paths to understanding in SUM OF MANY THINGS.
